Tonight, the Delaware Blue Coats (22-10) will tip off their 2022 playoff run against the Long Island Nets (18-15). The third-seeded Coats will host at Chase Fieldhouse against the Nets, who just squeezed into the playoffs as the sixth seed.
The game will be one of the four first round matchups being played across the G League, with the winner of this game moving onto the Conference Semifinals to face the Motor City Cruise, who earned a bye.
These teams are very familiar with each other, as they have met four times dating back to November. They played each other twice during the Showcase Cup, including the first game of the year on November 6, which the Blue Coats won 114-100. Delaware would defeat them again on December 4, 2021, 125-110.
While the Coats would eventually go on to capture the Showcase Cup championship, both teams restarted their years when the G League regular season began back in January.
The Nets and Blue Coats would not meet again until March 2, which was the two squad’s closest matchup to date. The Nets would get their first and only victory over the Blue Coats this season in their home arena that night, winning 119-113.
Their most recent meeting came shortly after that on March 12, in which Delaware bounced back with a 130-120 W.
While the Blue Coats seem to have the Nets’ number, the G League Playoffs features a “one and done format,” meaning that this is a must win for both teams if they want to keep their seasons alive.
The game will begin at 8:00 p.m., with live streaming and coverage on YouTube and ESPN2.
