G LEAGUE IGNITE TOUR STOPS IN DELAWARE
Luke Meli /January 24, 2022
On Sunday, Jan. 30, the Delaware Blue Coats will welcome NBA G League Ignite into Chase Fieldhouse. The 1 p.m. ET contest will mark the first matchup between the Blue Coats and Ignite, and will be broadcast on NBA TV.
NBA G League Ignite is comprised of both NBA prospects and veterans. The team poses as an alternative to college for upcoming NBA prospects, allowing them to develop their game in a professional environment while playing alongside NBA veterans. Previously undrafted players - including those that signed directly from the high school ranks - are eligible for the NBA Draft after completing one year of service with the team.
Ignite is led by Jaden Hardy, ESPN’s top guard and No. 2 player overall in the class of 2021, who averaged 17.7 PPG in Showcase Cup play. MarJon Beauchamp, another highly touted prospect by ESPN and projected lottery pick, is putting up 15.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG. Guard Dyson Daniels, a top international prospect from Australia, is averaging 11.3 PPG for Ignite.
The matchup forecasts to be a clash of opposing powers, with the Blue Coats having recently been crowned Winter Showcase Cup Champions in Las Vegas. After a 14-1 start in Showcase play, Delaware is 4-2 on the regular season. Recent Philadelphia 76ers call-up Braxton Key leads the team in scoring with 25.3 PPG. Blue Coats veteran Jared Brownridge is shooting 46% from three-point range. The team has produced a franchise-record six NBA call-ups so far this season including Key, Haywood Highsmith, Charlie Brown, Jr., Shaq Harrison, and Jarron Cumberland.
NBA G League Ignite has four players currently projected to be selected in the 2022 NBA Draft: Michael Foster, Dyson Daniels, MarJon Beauchamp, and Jaden Hardy, with the latter three expected to be first round picks.
2023 NBA Draft prospect Scoot Henderson became the first prospect to sign a 2-year deal with Ignite, joining the team at only 17 years old, two years before becoming draft-eligible.
Jalen Green (No. 2 overall), Jonathan Kuminga (No. 7), and Isaiah Todd (No. 31), all Ignite players last season, were selected in the 2021 NBA Draft.
NBA G League Ignite made its debut last season in the bubble in Orlando. The team went 8-7 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Raptors 905.
Ignite is not playing in the G League’s 36-game regular season, but instead is taking part in a tour across the league, where fans from around the country can watch the prospect-laden team compete against their local team. Ignite will play ten games on the tour, with four of the games being shown on NBA TV.
This game will not count towards the regular season standings for the Blue Coats.
